Travel and Tourism under Pandemic Conditions: Second Review and Preparation Exercise

Given the evolving situation of the Pandemic (H1N1) 2009, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) convened a review and preparation exercise for the region of the Americas, held in Nassau, The Bahamas on the 16-17 September 2009. This event was organized with the joint collaboration of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation. Since the outbreak of the influenza virus in April 2009, the travel and tourism sector had been extremely challenged. Fortunately, the mild character of the virus in most countries caused only limited impact on the sector. However, an influenza pandemic is likely to span the entire planet and last for up to several months, with possible recurrence known as ‘waves’ within a year of the start of the pandemic.REPORT
